Projects
Sex, gender, and CSBD Projects
In the lab, there are several projects that examine the intersection of human sexuality and psychological distress. These include examinations of LGBTQ+ mental health disparities, problematic pornography use (and compulsive sexual behavior more broadly), and sexual assault prevention. Much of this research takes an intersectional approach with gender, religion, and race.
Psychotherapy and Psychological Intervention Projects
The lab's second line of research is examining how to treat and prevent common mental health problems, such as anxiety, OCD, PTSD, and depression. Many of these projects are just starting and we have several funded submissions under review. We are particularly interested in what makes counseling work and believe that we could develop more efficient psychological interventions if we better understood the basic nature of mental illness/intervention.
Other questions under this line have to do with the intersection of counseling and medication interventions, arguments for and against psychologist prescription rights, and more accurately modeling the therapeutic efficacy of counseling and medication interventions in the general population. Projects under this line of research often intersect with the first line of research.
In the past year, we have become very interested in conducting meta analyses on both counseling interventions and pharmaceutical interventions (particularly the rising psychedelic class). We are very interested in applicants who want to do this type of research.
